If you want to find the best beginner YouTube Vlogging camera, you have come to the right place. I’ll teach you here why you can probably start recording videos as soon as you finish reading this post, which is what you should do right away.

Before we begin, let me make something clear: most successful YouTubers didn’t start with the BEST equipment. This is simply because it wasn’t affordable for them, or they simply didn’t care that much about it

The most important thing about having a YouTube channel is starting right away. Getting subscribers is something that is done over the time, and the sooner you start the faster you will succeed.

That is why I’ve made a list of cameras that will get you started, whether because they’re easy to use or because they’re really cheap –or free-. You can use any of these cameras to start getting subscribers right away.

Best YouTube Vlogging Cameras for Beginners

The following cameras are not specific models; they are just suggestions you can bear in mind to try out what you already got. You might want to start using what you’ve got to see if vlogging is what you really want to do. This way you can save up money and time.

This is a great way to put you on the right path:

Your Smartphone’s Camera

LG G4's Camera is a good starter YouTube camera

A lot of YouTubers started with their phone’s camera. Most modern smartphone cameras can record 1080p HD video, so be sure you really need to buy a camera in the first place if you want to start video blogging on YouTube.

If you have an IPhone, HTC One, LG or Samsung phone it’s probable that you already got a great camera in your hands. These phones are between the best vlogging cameras for beginners because of their high-quality recording and DSLR-like adaptability.

You can try your phone’s camera without buying any other additional equipment and see if you think it’s good for starting.

However, the downside of smartphone recording is that their audio recording is pretty bad, so it’s probable that you’ll end up buying a mic and getting a tripod to make things more comfortable.

Nevertheless, these gadgets can fit a budget pretty well

For example…

This LOHA Premium Flexible Tripod is a universal smartphone tripod that fits IPhones, Androids and Window phones.

Also, you will need an external microphone to connect to your smartphone. Alternatively, you could get a microphone to record to your computer. Here is a list of good microphones for smartphones, cameras and PCs.

If you already own an expensive phone, you only need to invest in these add-ons that will cost you less than $100.

Your Digital Point & Shoot Travel Camera

If you’ve ever traveled, you probably have a point & shoot camera lying around.

Try it, upload a private video to YouTube and see if you think the quality is okay.

This way you won’t have to buy a new camera. You might have already a digital camera lying around that is not worse than the other cameras posted at the end of this article.

Even if the camera can only record at a maximum of 720p30fps, it’s okay for a new channel. There is no need for much more unless the things you will be recording need a lot of quality to make any sense.

Here are some tips to find out if your camera is adequate for starting a YouTube vlogging channel:

  • Make sure your camera can record in any of the following formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, MP4, AVI, WMV, MPEGPS, FLV, 3GPP, WebM; these are the formats that YouTube accepts. It will also save you a lot of time because you will spend less time editing and encoding.
  • Don’t trust MegaPixels to calculate camera quality: MPs are useful only if you’re going to print an image. Selling you a camera by their MPs is just a tactic camera manufacturers use to get more customers. This is not a feature to worry about when choosing the best camera for a YouTube beginner; you only need to worry about video recording quality.
  • A camera with an external microphone jack is useful: This is not that important if you’re going to record yourself using a computer microphone; however, for the rest of the people an external microphone is almost always necessary. Sometimes you can’t hear what you say and a lot of noise slips in when using a camera’s internal mic. This means that sooner or later you will need an external microphone.

Reviews of Cameras to Start Vlogging

The previous options are the best ones to start vlogging. However, if you don’t have any of those options available, you can go and buy one of the following cheap cameras.

They’re all very good to start vlogging for different reasons; I will explain why.

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

Normally, I do not recommend webcams to start a vlogging channel because their quality is generally really low. However, there are some exceptions on the market that are worth trying out, like the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

It’s a really cheap camera for its Full-HD 1080p video recording, which is quite rare in webcams.

The downside of it is that it’s not compatible with Mac. Its equivalent for Apple users is the Logitech HD Portable 1080p Webcam C615 with Autofocus.

This camera is great for gameplays because you usually record them in front of your monitor, so you don’t need to buy a tripod.

The only downside to this camera is its poor microphone. I don’t think you will be able to start vlogging properly without using another mic. It’s simply really bad.

The good thing is that there are good microphones you could buy to connect directly to your computer. You can get a good microphone and still pay less than $200.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 is undoubtedly the best webcam to start vlogging.

Logitech HD Webcam C270

This is the best price/quality relationship webcam on the market.

Its built-in noise-reduction feature and low price makes the Logitech HD Webcam C270 unique. This is one of the main problems new vloggers face, so it turns out to be really helpful for beginners.

It can only record 720p, and, just like the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, it’s only compatible with Windows. Its equivalent for Mac is the Logitech HD Webcam C310. According to a member of the Logitech help team, the C310 can be used under a Mac OS 10.4.9 or above.

Fujifilm FinePix S8600

If you want to start as soon as possible with a really nice cheap camera for vlogging, this one will give you all you need as a starter.

It can record up to 720p30, which is not that big of a deal. Getting a good microphone would be much more important than getting a 1080p camera.

Still, if you want to start with this camera, you should only do so if you don’t have a good smartphone. Most modern phones can record 1080p and you can use an external microphone with them.

Use this option only if you don’t have a suitable smartphone and you are not going to record in front of your PC’s monitor -in which case you should use a webcam-.
